Why use a SQL Server Express or SQL Server database?

I would like to configure a SQL Server (or SQL Server Express) database for the software instead of the default MS Access database. Is this possible, and if so, how do I set it up?

IDEAL Administration (and IDEAL Remote) uses an MS Access database by default for storing software configuration data, inventories, and real-time audits of the Active Directory domain. This MS Access database has limitations, with a maximum size of 2GB and significant database fragmentation.

To eliminate these issues, we recommend using a SQL Server Express database (free) or SQL Server if you have one in your organization.

Installing SQL Server Express is very simple by downloading the free version offered by Microsoft. The SQL Server Express database has a maximum size of 10GB, compared to 2GB for MS Access. Furthermore, SQL Server corrects database fragmentation issues. Finally, you can install it on a resource server or your administration workstation.
